How to succeed socially on low fat raw

Melon baby

It’s great to receive all your awesome feedback regarding my posts thanks!

Had a great day, covered about 38kms on my bike in and around town…the sun hugged me warmly the whole time. Spent part of my day in the shitty- oh excuse me..the ‘city’ getting my Macbook fixed. While I was waiting I decided to go for a stroll through the Mall….I stopped & looked around & was disappointed by what i saw…lots of lies. I can see why young girls & boys develop eating disorders & poor self-image

…there are anorexic manequins in almost every window, photo-shopped pics of stunning gazelle-like women who don’t even make up 1% of the population, endless supplies of makeup available to fakeup your natural beauty… massive in-your-face advertisements of how to smooth your lines, burn away your wrinkles, fade your freckles & remove ‘unsightly’ birthmarks…

mannequins

Oh a smile & a tan is waay sexier!

Oh what are we being subjected to?!? Aren’t we amazing enough the way we are?! Apparently not…It is sooo important to build our beauty from the inside first so true beauty radiates out. You are BEAUTY-FULL! just believe it.

So today I am going to share my tips on succeeding socially on a low fat raw vegan lifestyle, yes it IS possible!!

Situation: Invited to a restaurant:

* Firstly ask what type of food the restaurant serves… if its ‘Steaks R Us’ then I recommend you maintain your high standards & decline dining in that deathly environment, use your best judgment with other places

* Have a large fruit meal just before you go out so you are totally satiated.

* Take an avocado/nuts/dried fruits with you to dress up your salad

* Blend up DateOrade (soaked dates & water) & take it with you to the restaurant & sip whenever temptations arise (maybe take it in a dark bottle to disguise brown chunky liquid ;-)

* Once at restaurant order a large salad with ONLY the ingredients you want like tom, lettuce, cucc etc…, that way you don’t have to peruse the menu & baffle the waiter with… ‘ Ummm…Can i get the salad minus the chicken, bacon, ranch dressing, croutons, onions, capers, garlic, oil, vinegar, chilli, salt….aarrrgh!! Save your sanity.

* If the salad comes out & its acceptable then keep ordering them! You shouldn’t need too many if you ate enough fruit before dinner & the cooked meals around you will not be appealing if you are full of sweet goodness

* When peeps ask you ‘why are you eating that way?…do u have an eating disorder?’…You can come back with ‘ I really enjoy looking after myself & I have received this, this & this benefit from eating this way..’ without a doubt they will continue to question you because they want to feel good too…

* Depending on the relationship you have with your fellow diners….you could also say ‘I’m trying a special diet at the moment, I feel great so far’

* If you get the standard ‘Where do u get your protein/calcium/iron/omega fats etc you could reply with ‘everything we need is within whole fresh fruits & greens…’- a typical response…’ buuuuut there’s no protein in fruits & vegies?!?!’..to which you could say – ‘Yes actually there is & in the perfect ratios for humans & here is a great site to check out exactly what nutrients are in fruits & greens….nutridiary.com or CronOmeter.

A few typical responses….

* ‘But you’ve got an eating disorder!!!’….’- so you consider ripping apart a dead chicken carcass is eating in order?’ (ofcourse it depends on what they are eating!)

* ‘Oh I could NEVER do that diet!!!’…. ‘yeh you’re probably right’ – good response if you’re not keen on an interaction with this person, best to say with a smile :)

* ‘Its too extreeeeeme for me!!’ – Check out this girl who said the same thing when she found out about living on rawfood….& now she has been doing it successfully 100% for 2years…sweetjuicyfreelee.com or use one of the examples from the entry before this one.

* ‘I bet you’re the only one on that crazy diet…’ Send them to 30bananasaday.com & they will find doctors, lawyers, professional athletes & everyday peeps succeeding on a low fat raw vegan lifestyle.

Some Extra Tips…

* Join a low fat raw vegan forum & contribute so you feel part of the community
* Hold yourself to a higher standard & surround yourself with peeps of similar caliber
* Do the lifestyle 100% & be a shining example…others will have much more faith in your ways if you look the part
* Host a local raw vegan picnic or throw a ‘fruit party’…they are ‘in vogue’ at the moment & most peeps are craving something different
* Prioritize your diet AHEAD of your social life, no one likes to hang around an unhealthy person anyway

Lastly remember your social group will begin to change for the better… the more raw you are the more awesome raw friends & experiences u attract into your life, you will be pleasantly suprised by the amazing friendships you forge!

Ok off to bed!!

  1. Great tips, Free! Thanks!!

  2. I jealous, watermelon season is over in the US

  3. [...] support on this path goes, it’s always fun to share a mango meal with someone special * Read succeeding socially on LFRV * Get organic deliveries, join an organic fruit & veg co-op or start your own * Have your first [...]

  4. no offense, but I wouldn’t be willing to follow a lot of the tips listed here. for instance, I think it’s just plain rude to refer to someone else’s dinner as a dead chicken carcass. I understand where you’re coming from ethically, but that sounds more like “how to make other people feel bad about what they’re eating” than “how to succeed socially on LFRV”. I think the last thing people want to do while they’re eating is get into debates about food ideology. this makes social situations hella awkward…nobody likes to hear someone preach about bananas as they enjoy their soup/steak whatever.
the strategy that works best for me is to brush off comments with a sense of humour, and respect everyone else’s dietary choices. just my two cents.

  5. another thing…I don’t see why adopting a new diet should cause my social group to “change for the better” and get more “raw friends”. I love my friends, and I don’t pick them based on what they eat.

again, no offense meant, I just think that alienation is a big issue for many raw foodists, and not everyone is willing to isolate themselves from their current “SAD friends” because they have adopted 811.

    • So I think we covered this on 30bad hey Liza? When you are 100% LFRV for a long period of time this will all make more sense to you :)

      • Interesting, I’ll report back, for interest’s sake, if/when I do LFRV for at least a year.
